The EM1 e: will fall under the same category as 50cc motorcycles under the Road Traffic Law. When fully charged, the vehicle can travel up to 53 kilometers, providing a practical range for short-distance trips. Charging the motorcycle is a convenient process, as power can be supplied through a regular electrical socket at home. The EM1 e: features a removable battery that can be charged using a dedicated charger. It takes approximately six hours to fully charge one exhausted battery.
Honda expects to sell approximately 3,000 units of the EM1 e:
annually. The motorcycle will be priced at 299,200 yen ($2,100), inclusive of
tax. This competitive pricing aims to make electric motorcycles more accessible
to a broader range of customers.
The shift toward electric motorcycles is a response to the global
trend of decarbonization and the increasing focus on sustainable transportation
solutions. Major motorcycle manufacturers, including Honda, are prioritizing
the development and production of electric models. Honda aims to introduce a
total of 10 electric motorcycles worldwide by 2025, with the EM1 e: being the
fourth model in this lineup. The company has set an ambitious goal of reaching
a 15 percent share of electric models among all new motorcycles by 2030.
Suzuki Motor Corp. is also planning to launch an electric
motorcycle in fiscal year 2024. By fiscal year 2030, they aim to have eight
electric motorcycle models available worldwide, accounting for 25 percent of
their entire motorcycle lineup. This demonstrates the industry's commitment to
embracing electric technology and transitioning toward a more sustainable
future.
